Gold-glazed lapis lazuli glaze small incense container - Item Code: C000082
¥20,000(tax not included)
Incense container is a type of tea ceremony utensil. In Japanese tea ceremonies, incense containers are placed in a “sumitori” and brought to the tea ceremony during the”sumidemae” (when water is boiled), and the heat of the charcoal causes the fragrance to waft into the room. The incense container does not have a hole drilled in the lid for the smoke to drift in, because the incense does not lit directly. The dark lapis lazuli color and the design of flowers, birds, and portraits of noblemen are indicative of the period.
