Colored porcelain with plum and mandarin ducks diamond-shaped dishes 4 pieces - Item Code: C000037
¥12,000(tax not included)
This diamond-shaped plates has a cute plum blossoms and mandarin ducks design. In two places on the inside, there is a wave pattern of seigaiha at the bottom and a pomegranate symbolizing fertility above it. In Japan, a married couple that gets along well with each other is called a “mandarin duck married couple,” and this work is also very smiling. (Origin of the Mandarin duck married couple: from “The Mandarin Ducks' Contract". A long time ago, a king in the Chinese country of Song stole his retainer's beautiful wife. The grieving husband committed suicide. The wife also committed suicide, leaving a will saying, “Please bury me with my husband”. The king, however, would have none of it, and the two graves were built a short distance apart. Then, a tree grew out of both graves, and in the course of a night, it grew so thick that its branches intertwined with each other. A pair of mandarin ducks came and built a nest on the branches.)
