It depicts a cymbidium that would have been carefully nurtured in water moss. The daring use of a single indigo color accentuates the loveliness of the flowers. The reverse side is decorated with auspicious cloisonné and the high pedestal is decorated with comb teeth. Although simplified, these cute plates, modeled after the Nabeshima ware that was offered to the shogun, are likely to be useful as fun tableware for daily use.
